🍜 There is hardly a Malaysian who have never heard of Penang Asam Laksa, especially after being ranked No.7 in CNN World Best Top 50 Food. There is no science to explain the beauty of Laksa. The wonder of Laksa comes from the taste explosion achieve from mixing many ingredients together, from the fish and tamarind soup base to the mixture of heavy garnishing of pineapple, cucumber, onion, torch ginger, fish meat and a spoonful of thick prawn paste. It is highly fragrant, spicy, sour, sweet and savory, all at the same time.
Laksa preparation is very time consuming due to the number of ingredients involved. Our Asam Laksa paste makes it easy for you to prepare the wonderful dish in your kitchen. Don't forget to add fish into the soup. Due to shelf life, we cannot add the fish meat on your behalf. In Penang, the fish used are typically Sardines or Mackerel. When cooking the fish, remember to leave 1 or 2 fishes in the broth. This is to allow the fish meat to disintegrate into the broth and thickens it. Don't worry about fishiness smell as the plethora of floral garnishing will balance it out!
COOKING INSTRUCTIONS (180g paste serves 2 to 3 pax):
1. Add 1000ml water with the paste and bring to boil
2. Add 0.8 to 1kg of fish or fish meat like Sardines or Mackerel. After 10 min, scoop out half of the fish meat for garnishing. Leave the other half to boil another 10 min and disintegrate into the broth.
3. Garnishing: fish meat, pineapple cubes, shredded cucumber, mint leaves, a sprinkle of torch ginger (Bunga Kantan) & a spoonful of shrimp paste. Squeeze some lime juice to increase the sourness.
